2025 Is My Year: A Journey of Grit, Discipline, and Resilience

It’s the end of January—the time when motivation starts to waver, and New Year’s resolutions often fade into the background. Research shows that by this time, 43% of people abandon their goals, leaving behind the energy and hope they started the year with. But what if this time could be different? What if this year could truly be your year?

For me, 2025 isn’t just another year—it’s an opportunity to build on everything I’ve learned about grit, discipline, and choosing the hard path. My journey began decades ago, and every step has shaped the person I am today.

A Turning Point

Thirty years ago, I was a teenager with big dreams and an even bigger problem. I was 13 years old, 100 pounds overweight, and out of shape. I loved sports and dreamed of playing professional football, but I wasn’t living the kind of life that would make those dreams a reality. My lifestyle—poor eating habits, little activity, and a lack of focus—was holding me back.

Then, one summer, something clicked. I looked in the mirror and realized I had a choice: continue down the path I was on or take control of my life. I chose control. Armed with nothing more than fitness magazines and a lot of determination, I completely overhauled my habits. I cut out sugar, soft drinks, and fried foods overnight. I started walking the high school track every chance I got. And I didn’t stop.

In just three months, I lost over 80 pounds. That transformation wasn’t just physical—it was mental. I discovered discipline and grit, two qualities that would shape my future. This was the first time I truly understood what it meant to Do Hard Stuff.

Building a Foundation

Losing the weight was just the beginning. I knew I needed to build my strength and skills to chase my dreams. I threw myself into training—speed drills, quickness exercises, and weightlifting. I worked harder than ever before, and it paid off. I became a standout high school athlete, breaking records in football that still stand today.

But even with all the progress I made, there were limits I couldn’t overcome. I wasn’t the tallest or most naturally gifted athlete. While my peers boasted towering heights and broad frames, I stood at 5’11”. Yet, I had something they didn’t—grit. My head coach recognized it, and it became my greatest asset.

My determination earned me a spot playing college football in the SEC. Though I never made it to the NFL, I walked away with something far more valuable: the ability to persevere through life’s challenges and the confidence to keep pushing forward.

The Birth of "Do Hard Stuff"

Fast forward to 2024. After years of learning, growing, and overcoming, I co-founded Do Hard Stuff with a family friend. What started as a personal mantra evolved into a movement—a call to action for anyone ready to embrace challenges and build resilience.

Our mission is simple: choose the hard path, do what’s right, and find strength in the struggle. Motivational clothing became a symbol of this movement, inspiring people to wear their commitment to grit and discipline. The world gets stronger when we make ourselves stronger, and that’s what Do Hard Stuff is all about.

Lessons from 2024

Last year, I focused on living with intention. I let go of negativity, forgave others, and prioritized my health. I quit alcohol, read 15 books, spent more time outdoors, and cooked nearly every meal. I learned to love myself and found that self-love often fills the gaps we think others need to fill.

My workouts became the hardest part of my day, lowering my everyday stress and reminding me what I’m capable of. These habits weren’t just about physical fitness—they were about building a mindset of discipline and resilience.

Ending January Strong

It’s easy to feel your motivation slipping as January ends, but this is when the real work begins. Resolutions aren’t about perfection—they’re about persistence. If you’ve stumbled, it’s not too late to get back up. Write down your goals and revisit them often. Want to spend more time with family? Put down your phone. Want to travel? Start planning. Want to get healthier? Take one small step today.

Weakness attracts weakness, but strength inspires strength. By choosing to Do Hard Stuff, you set an example for those around you. This is your year to prove to yourself what you’re capable of.
